Mary Lou Bonk, 81, of Wellsboro, passed away in the early morning hours of December 31, 2017 in Canandaigua, NY surrounded by family.   She was the wife of Milton J. Bonk, who preceded her in death in January of 1973.

Mary Lou was born July 31, 1936, the daughter of Wesley Lloyd Clark and Kathryn (Pavlock) Clark Beckwith and Elmer Beckwith her step-father in Jamestown, NY.  She was raised and went to school in Salamanca, NY.

A dedicated caregiver who was very supportive of friends and family, appropriately, Mary Lou was a certified nursing assistant who worked at the Green Home in Wellsboro for better than 2 decades.  Mary Lou had a strong Catholic faith, and was proud of her Polish heritage, she was a very active member of the St. Peter’s Catholic Church in Wellsboro and supportive of her church’s activities, especially the clothing drives.  Mary Lou volunteered in the Red Cross Bloodmobiles, at the Samaritan Home, and was active in the Curves Exercise Club.  In her youth she was very athletic, she competed on her school’s volleyball, softball and basketball teams.  She was an accomplished artist and enjoyed drawing and painting, she designed the cover of her senior year yearbook for her high school.  Mary Lou loved the outdoors, and enjoyed gardening, especially her flower beds, and golfing, she had also been an avid bowler collecting trophies for achievements.  But her main accomplishment was as a mother, she was a devoted mother and very supportive of her children.

Mary Lou is survived by 2 sons:  Michael J. (Teresa Clemens) Bonk of Hills Creek and Martin J. Bonk of Charlotte, NC; 2 daughters:  Judi Bonk Guy (Robert) of Canandaigua, NY and Julie Wilson (Joseph) of Covington; 6 grandchildren:  Deandra Bonk of Virginia, Dylan Bonk of Hills Creek, Janae and Joelle Guy both of Canandaigua, and Reileigh and Logan Wilson both of Covington; and 1 sister Paulette Davis (Gary) of Columbia, SC.  She was preceded in death by her parents and husband, and 1 brother:  Richard Clark.

Friends and family are invited to Mary Lou’s life tribute celebration from 4-7pm Wednesday January 3, 2018 at the Tussey-Mosher Funeral Home 139 Main Street Wellsboro, PA 16901 and her Mass of Christian Burial at St. Peter’s Catholic Church in Wellsboro, 9:30am Thursday January 4, 2018 with Fr. David Bechtel officiating.  Burial will be in the St. Peter’s Catholic Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her name to the St. Peter’s Catholic Church in Wellsboro.
