Dorothy May (Gleason) Shumway, 93, of Wellsboro, passed away on Tuesday, January 9, 2018 at Soldiers and Sailors Memorial Hospital.  She was the wife of Theron L. Shumway, who preceded her in death. They were married for 47 years.   Dorothy was born October 9, 1924 in Shortsville, PA, the daughter of the late Fred C. and Grace Belle (Stratton) Gleason.

Dorothy retired from Corning Glass in 1989, where she was employed as a packer/inspector. During their lifetime, she and her husband traveled internationally with several groups.  Dorothy and Theron enjoyed their annual reunion with the 103rd Medical Battalion. She enjoyed spending time with her family, and was a great supporter of her children’s school activities. Dorothy had an abundance of energy which was evidenced in the many bus trips she enjoyed, accompanied by her sister, Alice. She loved the go fishing and would often times catch the biggest fish. She was known as “Grandma” to both family and friends.

Dorothy is survived by her daughters, Brenda Shumway, of Wellsboro, PA, Sheila Rudinski (Joe) of Hornell, NY and Jane Doran (Clifford), of Westfield, PA; grandchildren, James Borden of Wallace, NC, Carol Borden of Rochester, NY, Michael Doran (Heather) of Knoxville, PA and Suzanne Bish of Westfield, PA; great-grandchildren, Kari, Benjamin, Lillian, Daisy and Kylie; several nieces and nephews; good friend, Henry Fischetti.
