I was saddened when running into Mike's brother Pat that he informed me of Mike's untimely passing. I know Mike from are grade school days at St. Mary's School in Denville. Mike was a grade ahead of me. I guess that you could say that he took a liking to me. We lost touch during our high school years but reunited through a mutual friend while I was attending County College of Morris. I was invited more then once to join Mike and our mutual friend Mike Brazier. Since then I would occasionally run into his younger brother Pat. I would always ask how Mike was doing and tell him that I said hello. Mike would be happy to know that I am still playing guitar. Rest in Peace Mike. My condolences go out to his family.

I send my deepest condolences to the Hars family. As our backyards faced one another during childhood, I grew up with Mike. I can still see him in my mind, waiting for me at the back fence, smiling his famous smile, eager to tell me a story, a sports score, or a new fact he just learned. In my heart, he'll always be there; a wonderful guy who I was blessed to share my childhood with. Rest in Peace, Mike.

I still cannot believe that I will never see Mike again in the hall, never see him pop in my room for computer and gradebook help, never hear him recommend a song that was "real" classic rock. Schalick lost a great family member and I will miss him sorely.

Dear Sue, Alyssa, Kerry, and Mike's entire extended family,
For the last 25 years, I have been blessed to know Mike. Our love of classic rock quickly gave us a common bond, but Mike's genuineness, disposition, and infectious smile made us friends. Hanging out with the Hars family has always been a great time, especially when 5th Block was playing.

Mike has left his mark on this world simply because of being such a good man. He will forever be in my heart as my friend, colleague, and my favorite drummer. Harsie is at peace, at will always be looking down on you three with his greatest smile ever.
Love, Deb

So sorry to hear of Mike’s passing. You had one cool older brother, Pat.
I haven’t seen him in decades but I will never forget his positive energy, when he wasn’t smacking you for secretly playing his records… but how else would we have known to listen to Derrick and the Dominoes and Qraudrophenia?

Thinking of you, Bruce and of course, sweet Lorraine and our deepest sympathies to Michael’s family, Drew & Mollie.

Mike was one of the best people that I ever met. I knew him back in his Wellsboro, PA days. He was with "The Plague" back then, and was a great showman when on the drums. He was a fantastic coach, teacher, and friend to many while in the "Boro." The world has lost a great man, and my sincerest condolences and my most heart-felt prayers go out to Sue, Alyssa, and Kerry. He is sorely missed by those of us blessed enough to have known him.

I met Mike on a bus tour of Pittsgrove Township wen we had both just been hired at the high school. I knew that day, and everyday since, I had met a very special man. Each time I was able to visit with Mike it left me uplifted and appreciated. I will miss him so much but am thankful for all my treasured memories. We are so sorry to hear about the passing of Mike. He touched all of our children lives as a wonderful coach, amazing teacher and interested friend. Schalick High School will not be the same without him gracing the halls, the fields and the classroom. He took such an interest in his students and obviously loved his family. He will be greatly missed. You are in our prayers.

It is with heartfelt sorrow to hear of the passing of Michael. I met him while in high school. I attended Morris Catholic, but hung out with the MK boys. I was introduced to Mike by the "Ace" (Al Pirrello) and "Braj" (Mike Brajer). As time went on I enjoyed listening to the jam sessions with all the guys, "Bones" (Andy Morra)
"Harsie" and Stanley Brajer. We enjoyed some of life's simplest pleasures and made true friendships along the way. Mike always had a joke or a good story that always made me laugh. I know heaven is a better place because he is there. My condolences are with his family, friends, and his Schalick school community who will miss him dearly. God bless the "Hars"!!

Mike and I were separated by 5 months in age and a grade in school. As children we grew up across the street from one another. The great qualities that Mike exhibited and are in full display here were present even as a child. You could not ask for a better best friend or playmate as a kid than Mike and his brother Pat. I am terrible sadden that this great person has left us so young. Thanks for the memories. Rest in peace my friend.

I will always remember some great times with Mike. He was my favorite high school teacher. Always smiling and in a good mood. I even got to be his co-worker at the liquor store in Bridgeton for a short time. I'll always remember enjoying a beer together and a late night conversation when we closed the store down for the night. He taught me a lot there.
I will most remember him, though, for his knowledge of music and all of the bands he introduced me to. We always talked about music. He loved it as much as I do. Even more actually! From my days at Schalick all the way up until the last time I saw him. We bonded over music.
I'll never forgot The two of us sitting in my car one afternoon playing each other CDs of new bands we had heard. He was always interested in what I was listening to at the time.
I'm glad I got to even jam out with him in his basement a couple of times. Those are experiences that can never be replaced.
I learned a lot from him and was able to build a friendship with him beyond just being one of his students.
He will be missed very much!

I had Mr. Hars as a teacher years ago. He always had a smile on his face. My daughters both had him. My oldest daughter is taking this hard. He always told her to think of him as a grandfather figure (I think its because her name is Alyssa). She would wear her EMT uniform to school on days she had to work right afterwards. He would always tell to to be careful, be safe and if she ever needed anything to let him know. That's just the kind of person he was. Looking out for everyone else. We need more people like him. R.I.P. Mr. Hars. My thoughts and prayers are with the family.

Mike, I remember our first encounter in Schalick's bandroom back in 89 like it was yesterday. You told me you were a drummer too-and that you had the "holy grail" Ludwig kit and snare. You invited me over to your new house, and little did I know at the time, it would be the first day of a friendship that would last nearly three decades. I'll always remember all the great concerts, including The Smithereens reunion last month. And despite our shared anger at those two idiots who hemmed your truck in, it gave me one last great Harsey story to tell. I'll miss all our epic drum conversations, and all your spot-on life advise. I'll miss you my friend, and to Sue, Alyssa and Kerry-my heart breaks for your loss.

I think many of us could write a chapter in our book titled: "Mike Hars". It would be a long one full of quips, quotes, verbal jabs, and miscellaneous historical information. As I sat this morning with Athletic Director Mike Clarke, following a morning tribute to Harsie at school, we looked at each other and, practically simultaneously, said: "we need to be more like Mike."
