Edna Goodwin Obituary

Edna B. Goodwin, 103, of Wellsboro, passed away on Thursday, December 24, 2020 at the Green Home, Wellsboro.   She was born on April 9, 1917, in Pinwood, SC; the daughter of the late Robert W. and Mary M. (Morrison) Brailsford. 

Edna graduated from the Medical College of South Carolina’s School of Nursing, in Charleston, in 1944, as a Registered Nurse.  She served in the Army during WWII as a Nurse 2nd Lieutenant where she met her husband Stuart C.  Goodwin, an Army Medic.  They were married on May 14, 1946 and celebrated 71 years of marriage until his passing on August 1, 2017.  After marriage they moved to their beloved farm they called the Ding Dang, where they enjoyed a wonderful life together.   

Edna worked as a Registered Nurse for Soldiers and Sailors Hospital, Wellsboro, for 25 years, retiring in 1979.  She was a member of First Presbyterian Church of Wellsboro and enjoyed sewing, crafts and especially reading.  Edna was a very generous person and supported the Green Free Library and the Red Cross, Wellsboro.

Surviving are children, Barbara Howey of Wellsboro; , Stuart (Angel) “Mike” Goodwin of Wellsboro; and Mary Novakowski of Georgia; grandchildren, Christina Howey Coffee, Jennifer Howey Showers, Sarah Howey Taylor, Tricia Goodwin Kinane, Brad Goodwin, Robbie Hotchkiss, Rachel Hotchkiss Raines; great-grandchildren, Jordyn and Aidan Coffee, Charlotte and Noah Worthington, Wayne, Morgan, Ashley, Paige and Trey Taylor; Kaitlyn Kinane, Joey and Ruby Raines, Emory Hotchkiss and great great grandchildren, Sylvia Taylor and Everly Taylor.

In addition to her husband and parents, Edna was preceded in death by a sister Aletha B. Wacker, brother and sister-in-law, Robert (Ruth) Brailsford, and son-in-laws, Dave Howey and Voitec Novakowski.

Due to COVID- 19 restrictions at this time, a private burial will be held at the Tioga County Memorial Gardens, Mansfield.
