Wendy (Milne) McCleary

Wendy M. McCleary, age 62, of Wellsboro passed away at Geisinger Medical Center on Monday, April 12, 2021 following a recurrence of the breast cancer she battled two years earlier. She was born on August 30, 1958 in Bryn Mawr, PA, the daughter of Robert Sager Milne and Barbara Anderson Milne.

Wendy grew up in Springfield, Delaware County, PA. She graduated from Eastern University, St. Davids, PA with a Bachelor of Social Work and later from the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia with a Master of Social Work. She was employed as a Social Worker/Director of Admissions in a nursing home; by the Philadelphia Corporation for the Aging as a case management specialist; as a hospital social worker; and as a clinical mental health counselor, among other positions in the social work field. She left employment to raise her daughter and throughout her life was deeply involved in the churches where her husband served as pastor. She was a Sunday School teacher, small group coordinator, Bible study teacher, Mothers of Preschoolers lead mentor, choir member, VBS leader, and served in a host of other supportive ways. She loved and trusted Jesus as her Savior and loved to help others know Him too. Despite numerous health issues, she did her best to invest in the lives of others and especially enjoyed mentoring women and girls, helping to develop their spiritual lives and gifts. The lights of her life were her daughter and two beloved grandsons and she cherished every opportunity to be with them.

She was preceded in death by her grandparents and parents and is survived by her spouse, Rev. Dr. Jeffrey D. McCleary; a daughter Emma Wassink (Brett) and two grandsons, Ethan and Leo; and a brother, Robert Milne (Terri).
