Walter G. Sanders died at home on June 2, 2021. The son of Viola Rumer Sanders and Walter G. Sanders, Sr., Walter was born and grew up in Belleville, Illinois. He double majored in Art and English Literature, earning his B.A. degree from Washington University in St. Louis, Missouri. He received his M.A. in English from the University of Wisconsin-Madison.
Walter first taught English at Valparaiso University in Indiana. He was a Professor Emeritus of Mansfield University where he taught English for thirty-seven years and retired as a department chair much loved and respected by his faculty for his kindness, wisdom, and support. Walter was also a widely published essayist and fiction writer.
Walter married Lynn Miller in 1970, and the couple celebrated their fiftieth wedding anniversary in 2020.
A lover of dogs, Walter and Lynn shared their home at various times with Dryden (a Brittany Spaniel), Blake (a Golden Retriever), and Fielding (a Burnese Mountain Dog).
Walter is survived by his beloved wife Lynn, as well as sisters- and brothers-in-law Lois and Ronald Points of Virginia; Mary and Edward Ellis of South Carolina; and Mary Karen Miller of Florida. He is also survived by nieces and nephews that he enjoyed keeping up with: Karla and Dieter Ambos of Missouri; Laurie and Michael Boswell and daughter Elizabeth of Illinois; Christina and Jon Snyder and daughters Jocelyn and Alexis of North Carolina; Tom and Beth Veath and sons Blake and Grant of Missouri; Eric and Roli Points and their children Ria and Shrey of Virginia; Mark and Michelle Points and daughters Elisabeth, Natalie, Daphne, and Colleen of Virginia; and Adam and Ying Points and daughter Veronica of Vietnam.
His arrangements have been entrusted to the Tussey-Mosher Funeral Home 139 Main Street Wellsboro, PA. Those who wish to remember Walter are asked to be kind to someone.
