Ruth (Dartt) Horton, 92, of Wellsboro, passed away on Thursday, December 16, 2021, at her home with family by her side. She was born August 4, 1929, in Wellsboro the daughter of the late Myron S. and Christine (Peterson) Dartt. She married Donald K. Horton on September 12, 1948, sharing 66 years of marriage together before his passing on January 29, 2015.
Ruth was a banker for Commonwealth Bank & Trust for many years, retiring in 1987. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Wellsboro and enjoyed spending time with her family, especially her two grandsons Sean and Todd, and friends. After retiring she enjoyed traveling and having fun. She was full of life, strong, loved her family, and was a “Dartt” until the very end.
Left to cherish her memory are her daughters, Donna (Blaine) Bush of Hiram, OH; Dianne (Mike) Hawk of Wellsboro; a son, David Horton of Lyons, CO; a sister, Helen Davis Putnam of Wellsboro; grandsons, Sean (Kelly) Bush, Todd (Andrea) Bush, and great grandchildren, Nick, Bella, Claire, Brady, and Leah.
In addition to her husband and parents, Ruth was preceded in death by a son, Donald Horton, Jr., sisters, Dorothy Stevens and Phyllis Sims, and a brother, Richard Dartt.
Ruth’s memorial service will be held Saturday, January 22, 2022 at 11:00 am at the First Presbyterian Church, 130 Main St., Wellsboro, with her pastor, Michael Birbeck and Rev. Dr. Roger Wagner, officiating. Burial will be in Wellsboro Cemetery.
Memorial donations can be made in Ruth’s name to Second Chance Animal Sanctuaries, 725 Gee Rd., Wellsboro, PA 16901 or to a charity of the donor’s choice.
