Robert Carl Bernhardy

Robert C. Bernhardy, 77, of Wellsboro, went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, September 22, 2018 at Cole Memorial Hospital in Coudersport. He was the husband of Helen Kiemle Bernhardy, they shared 53 years of marriage together. He was born in Pittsburgh, the son of the late Robert and Mildred (Phipps) Bernhardy.

Bob was an active member of the Wellsboro Bible Church, having volunteered with the Awana youth program for several years. He retired from the Quaker Chemical Corporation in 2006 and had previously been employed by GE Capital Mortgage for 15 years. In recent years, he has enjoyed the simple things in life, such as baking, reading and volunteering at UPMC Soldiers and Sailors Memorial Hospital. Bob’s true passion was being outdoors, whether he was running, hiking, or biking, and was a long-standing member of the Susquehannock and Asaph Trail Clubs. He also gave back to the outdoors through volunteering his time maintaining trails on the Susquehannock and Appalachian trail systems. Bob ran many marathons including the Boston, Skylon and Potter County marathons. Some of his noteworthy achievements were running the Potter County marathon 20 times and also qualifying for the Boston Marathon at the age of 40. Bob will be remembered by family and friends as a highly dedicated man who truly valued his love for his family.

Surviving in addition to his wife, Helen, are his sons, Chad (Nadine) Bernhardy of West Chester, PA and Kyle Bernhardy of Denver, CO; four grandchildren, Hope, Erin, Evan and Sean; brothers, David and Darryl Bernhardy; sister, Eileen (Ron) Malstrom; several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Bob was preceded in death by his brother, Jamie Bernhardy.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, October 13, 2018, 11:00 AM, at the Wellsboro Bible Church, 45 East Ave., Wellsboro, with Pastor T.J. Freeman officiating.
