LaVerne E. Ayers, 81, of Lawrenceville, passed away on Thursday, September 30, 2021, at his home.
LaVerne was born September 20, 1940, in Blossburg, the son of the late Kenneth and Doris (Shumway) Ayers. He married the former Sally-Lee F. Smith on December 6, 1963 and celebrated 43 years of marriage until her passing on April 29, 2007.
LaVerne was an Army veteran and retired from Corning, Inc. where he worked as a machinist. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, and spending time with his family, especially his great grandchildren. In his earlier years, he enjoyed gardening, canning, and building hooches with his brother Pat.
LaVerne is survived by two daughters, Birgetta Walker and Michele (Jeremy) Jones both of Lawrenceville; two brothers, Lawrence “Pat” Ayers of Tioga; Tom Ayers of Wellsboro; a sister, Peggy Murray of Tioga; 5 grandchildren, 7 great grandchildren and one on the way, and several nieces and nephews.
Family and friends are invited to pay their respects Thursday, October 7 from 1-2:00 pm at the Tussey-Mosher Funeral Home, 139 Main St., Wellsboro where a funeral service will follow at 2:00 pm with Pastor Harold Burrell of the West Jackson Baptist Church, Millerton, officiating. Burial will be in Tioga County Memorial Gardens, Mansfield.
