Joanne Niklaus Smith, 86, of Middlebury Center, PA passed away Monday October 12, 2020 in her home surrounded by family. She was born September 28, 1934 in Williamsport to Walter and Charlotte (Rolley) Niklaus. She graduated from St. Joseph’s school in Williamsport and worked to become a Registered Nurse. She married Edgar Smith on September 8, 1956 in Williamsport. Later, they moved to Ft. Atkinson, WI, and she operated her real estate company, Home Realty, and served as president of the local Chamber of Commerce. A dynamic woman with a zest for life, she was a licensed pilot (her first cross-country flight was from New Holland, PA to Williamsport, PA), certified in SCUBA, enjoyed travelling internationally, especially to Europe and Jamaica, loved to ride horses, and was an avid Green Bay and Penn State fan.
Joanne is survived by her husband of 64 years, Edgar Smith, a son: Jeffrey S. Smith of WI, a daughter: Tanya L. Smith of Middlebury Center, a brother: Ronald “Skip” Niklaus of Carlisle, and two sisters: Margaret “Peggy” Smith of Williamsport and Carol VanZile of Mainesburg. She was preceded in death by her parents and one brother: Wilford “Bill” Niklaus.
In keeping with her wishes, Joanne’s family has entrusted her arrangements to the Tussey-Mosher Funeral Home 139 Main Street Wellsboro, PA 16901, and there will be no public services at this time.
