Jean A. Mathis, 94, of Wellsboro, died on Thursday, March 18, 2021 at her home.
Jean was born Jan. 23, 1927 in Charleston Twp., the daughter of the late Leonard and Freida (Eckberg) Adams. She married Russell P. Mathis, Jr. on Sept. 5, 1987 at the First Presbyterian Church, Wellsboro, and celebrated 30 years of marriage until his passing on July 13, 2018.
Jean was a graduate of Wellsboro High School and worked as an Executive Secretary for Taynton Freight until their closing.
Jean was a long time member of the First Presbyterian Church, Wellsboro and a member of the Tyoga Country Club. In addition to being an avid golfer she was a passionate bridge player.
Jean is survived by a step-daughter, Patricia A. (Jeffery) Dougherty, two step-grandchildren, Erin E. (Anthony) Schmitt and Ian P. (Emily) Dougherty, five step-great grandchildren: Anthony, Mason, Wyatt, Michael and Owen Schmitt all of Pittsburgh; and a cousin, Lowell Coolidge of Wellsboro.
In addition to her parents and husband, Jean was preceded in death by a sister and brother-in-law, Ruth and Robert Chalfant.
Family and friends will be received Saturday, March 27, at 1 p.m.at Tussey-Mosher Funeral Home, Ltd., 139 Main St. Wellsboro. Jean's funeral service follows at 2 p.m., with Rev. Michael Birbeck officiating, COVID health guidelines will apply. A private burial will be in Wellsboro Cemetery.
