Charles Bray Waterman, 87, of Middlebury Center and formerly of Lock Haven, passed away peacefully at home with family by his side, on Saturday, June 1, 2019. He shared over 42 years of marriage with his wife, Patricia (Moore) Waterman. He was born on August 22, 1931, in Lock Haven, a son of the late Michael and Hazel (Yost) Waterman.
Chuck spent over 50 years of his career as a printing press operator, having operated a print shop out of his basement, working for the Clinton Paper Company and finally retiring from the Wellsboro Gazette in 1995. He served as a sergeant in the United States Army during the Korean War. Additionally, he was a member of the American Legion for 27 years, the Loyal Order of Moose for 47 years, the Lock Haven Elks Club for 46, the Central District Volunteer Fireman’s Association in conjunction with a life membership to the Hope Hose Company #2 in Lock Haven.
Chuck enjoyed fishing, camping with family and friends, playing cards, playing spoons, bowling, golf and anything having to do with John Wayne. He had a true passion for music, whether he was playing the piano or organ or simply dancing with his wife, Pat. He took annual anniversary trips with his wife, usually funded by the winnings from his instant lottery tickets. His attention to detail could be seen in the particular way he mowed the lawn or created gifts in his woodshop for family and friends. Chuck will be dearly missed by family and friends for his great sense of humor and ability to lighten the mood in nearly any situation.
Left to cherish his memory are his loving wife and best friend, Pat Waterman, of Middlebury Center; three daughters, Pamela Jelliff (David), of Middlebury Center, Kimberly Farr (Todd), of Lawrenceville, and Michele Kearse (Kyle Owlett), of Middlebury Center; son, Larry Waterman (Bonnie), of Hudson Falls, NY; 22 grandchildren, 54 great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren; sister, Edna (Bob); his Aunt Lena; two sisters-in-law, Barbara and Sherry; several nieces and nephews; and many dear friends.
In addition to his parents, Chuck was preceded in death by his brother, Raymond, and two daughters, Gerry Rischel and Debora Woodruff.
Memorial donations can be made in Chuck’s name to either the Middlebury Township Fire Department, PO Box 63, Middlebury Center, PA 16935, or the Middlebury Ambulance Association, PO Box 64, Middlebury Center, PA 16935.
