Barbara Quackenbush Obituary

Barbara Miriam Quackenbush, 94
Died peacefully at home on December 15th in Wellsboro PA as a result of complications from Covid-19.
Barbara was born on July 20th 1926 in Dryden NY to Ralph J. and Alice (Nottingham) Luh. She spent most of her childhood in Kirkwood NY and graduated from Binghamton North High in 1945. She married Frederick R. Quackenbush on September 15th 1946 in Conklin NY. Together they raised a family and enjoyed 57 years of marriage until his passing in 2003.
Barbara loved music, acting and dancing. She learned her love of music from her father and had many treasured memories of making and performing music with him as a young girl during the depression. She sang with the Mansfield Women’s Chorus, the Wellsboro Women’s Chorus and performed in various community productions including, for many years, the Red Garter Review in Wellsboro. She sang 2nd Alto and was very difficult to sing next to in church! She passed the love of music on to her family, many of whom enjoy playing and performing music and theater.
Barbara was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, a “Nana” to many loved ones, from families immediate and extended. No one in her family ever doubted for a minute that her love for them was genuine and constant, she worried about everyone. Barb had special friendships with many people who sustained and nourished her. Many have benefited from her generous and giving spirit, her house was always open to anyone who needed a meal, a safe place, or to celebrate at one of the regular notorious holiday picnics or gatherings hosted by she and Fred. Neighbors, friends and family were always invited.
While raising her children, making their clothes, cooking from scratch from the garden. Barb also worked as a medical secretary in Hallstead PA and at the Candy Co. in Covington PA. For many years she had her own business as a seamstress working out of her home in Wellsboro.
Barbara was a Girl Scout Leader, a Cub Scout Den Mother, a member of the Wellsboro Women of the Moose and the W. Earle Champaign American Legion Auxiliary #84. She last attended the United Methodist Church in Wellsboro and she was active in any church community she was ever a part of. She baked more cakes, pies and cookies for community events during the 60 years she lived in Wellsboro than you can shake a stick at.
Barbara was a strong woman who knew what she wanted. She lived a full life and she saw many changes in the world. Through all the changes her example was steadfast; she left all of us who knew her better for the experience; she taught us how to love.
She is survived by her daughters Dianne Kline and Gail Quackenbush of Gobles MI, son David (Jennifer) Quackenbush of Painted Post NY, grandchildren Marie (Aaron) Brandt, Amy Quackenbush, Erin (Jason) Quackenbush Rohrbach, Shane (Jenny Lasinski) Kline, Megan Quackenbush, Ben Quackenbush and 14 great grandchildren. She is predeceased by her husband Frederick R. Quackenbush, son Fred R Quackenbush, son-in-law Barry Kline, sister Miriam Evans, brother Donald Divet and stepsister Laura Beam.
Special heartfelt appreciation to Barb’s dear friend and caregiver Alicia Phillips who’s love and dedication to her has been immeasurable to Barb and her family.
Her arrangements have been entrusted to the Tussey-Mosher Funeral Home 139 Main Street Wellsboro, PA.
