Arthur L. Shumway, 91, of Wellsboro, passed away Tuesday September 29, 2020 surrounded by family at Country Terrace in Wellsboro. Born December 14, 1928, to Peter A. and Esther (Vance) Shumway in Wellsboro, Arthur graduated from Wellsboro Area High School. On November 8, 1953 he married Ruth Ann Davis, with whom he shared 66 years of marriage. Arthur worked for the railroad for 21 years, he co-owned Shumway Meat Processing in Wellsboro, and worked as a meat-cutter for 26 years, and for 19 years was an employee at the Wellsboro Agway. Arthur was a member of the Coolidge Hollow United Methodist Church and a Charter Member of the Canyon Squares.
He is survived by his wife Ruth Ann of Wellsboro; three sons: William (Jan) Shumway of Wellsboro, Robert (Diane) Shumway of Sugar Run, PA, and Russell (Amy) Shumway of Livermore, CO; 7 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; and a brother: Howard Shumway of Watkins Glen, NY. Arthur was preceded in death by his parents, and two brothers: Roy and Elwin Shumway.
In accordance with Arthur’s wishes, his family has entrusted the Tussey-Mosher Funeral Home, 139 Main Street Wellsboro, PA with his arrangements and there will be a memorial service at a later date.
