Anne Morrell (Coolidge) Ford, age 91, passed away peacefully on March 13, 2021 at her home in Wellsboro. She was born on April 26, 1929, in Utica, NY, the daughter of the late Raymond and Jane (Adams) Coolidge.
Anne attended Elmira College and Columbia University Presbyterian Hospital School of Nursing. After graduating in August 1951 with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing, Anne married the love of her life, Richard "Dick" Ford, on October 7, 1951, and shared nearly 68 years of marriage together. Dick passed away on April 1, 2019.
About the time Anne and Dick were married, Dick was recalled into the U.S.A.F. for eighteen months during the Korean War. While Dick was overseas, Anne worked as a private duty nurse in Wellsboro.
In 1965 when all three children were in school, Anne accepted a position as a school nurse in the secondary schools, including grades 7 through 12. During the 26 years as a school nurse Anne was responsible for 1200 to 1500 students a year. Anne retired at the end of the school year in 1991. After retirement, Anne appreciated time she and Dick spent with friends, which included many trips both domestic and overseas.
Anne was a faithful member of the First Presbyterian Church of Wellsboro for over 60 years. She also enjoyed being engaged in the community and attending community events-such as community concerts, Hamilton Gibson shows, special events at the Dean Center, the Laurel Festival parade, and events hosted by the Wellsboro Rotary Club. Anne liked watching sports with Dick, cheering on their beloved Red Sox, and Penn State football team.
Family was the focal point of Anne's life. Once retired and for several years, Anne and Dick lived 3 to 4 months a year in Texas. They were able to spend time with their sons and their families. Anne cherished the time spent with her grandchildren. Anne and Dick also enjoyed visiting their daughter in NJ, and Anne loved going into New York City to see Broadway shows.
In addition to her parents, and her beloved husband Dick, Anne was preceded in death by her brother Dr. William Coolidge.
Left to cherish her memory are sons, Rick Ford (Kasey), of Plano TX, and Ron Ford (Jill), of Lakeway, TX; daughter, Karen Ford (Ken), of Piscataway, NJ; her brother, R. Lowell Coolidge, of Wellsboro; four grandchildren, Ryan Ford, Garrett Ford, Allison Davidson (Aaron) and Courtney Ford; several nieces and nephews; and many dear friends. Anne, as well as her family, were very appreciative of the care she received.
Due to the social concerns surrounding Covid-19, service arrangements are pending. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Tussey-Mosher Funeral Home 139 Main Street Wellsboro, PA 16901. Donations in Anne's memory may be directed to the Wellsboro Rotary Club, PO Box 961, Wellsboro, PA 16901, or the First Presbyterian Church of Wellsboro, 130 Main Street, Wellsboro, PA 16901.
