William Paul Reich

On February 2, 2022, Dr. William P. Reich passed away at his home in Wellsboro. He was 82.

He was born on May 1, 1939, in Lincoln, Nebraska, son of the late Rev. Phillip Reich and Katherine Scholl Reich.

Dr. Reich was formerly the Director of Pathology at Soldiers and Sailors Memorial Hospital, now part of UPMC, and retired June 2014 after a 42-year practice.

Dr. Reich did his undergraduate studies at Montana State University with a BA in Chemistry, and graduated from the University of Washington, Seattle, Washington in 1965 with a Doctor of Medicine degree. After a year internship at Good Samaritan Hospital, Portland, OR, he completed a four-year residency in combined anatomical and clinical pathology at the University of Washington Hospital System with fellowships in clinical microbiology and clinical chemistry at the National Institutes of Health. He became board certified in anatomical and clinical pathology in 1971.

In addition to his professional life, Dr. Reich was an avid outdoorsman and greatly enjoyed hunting and fishing. He also practiced various artistic and artisan pursuits, including drawing, painting, crafting knives and building reproduction early American muzzleloaders. He was an accomplished baker of yeast breads and cinnamon rolls. He had a strong interest in american and world history and archeology. Dr. Reich supplemented his pursuits and interests as an avid reader and movie watcher, especially enriching his historical interests and his travels.

He was a very devoted father and husband who always enjoyed spending time and traveling with his family.

He is survived by his wife Carol H. Reich of 19 years, son, Steven W. Reich of Fairfax, VA, daughter, Laura M. Reich, DO, of Philadelphia, PA and stepson, William Lockhart (Amanda) and two step-grandsons, Alex and Max, of Washington, DC as well as his brother, Robert Reich (Susan) of San Antonio, Texas and brother-in law, John Hall (Maureen), Rochester, NY.

A memorial service will be held at Tussey-Mosher Funeral Home on February 12, 2022 at 11:00 am.
