Waldo H. Wood

Waldo H. Wood, age 88, of Little Marsh, PA died Sunday August 29, 2021.  Born July 30, 1933 in Keeneyville, PA he was the son of Henry H. and Esther A. (Gunn) Wood.  Waldo married Olive A. Merrick on August 12, 1951.  They recently celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary.

Waldo was a member of the Keeneyville United Methodist Church, a founding member of the Chatham Fire Department, a former Chatham Township Supervisor for 16 years, and a forest fire warden for many years.  Waldo started his career working with his father on several family farms.  Waldo started a business with one bulldozer, and turned it into an excavation business that lasted 40 years.  They continued to dairy farm until 1965 when Waldo nearly lost his life in a farm accident.  Waldo and Olive have raised sheep, beef cattle, Belgian horses, and hogs, cut and sold timber, and made and marketed maple syrup for many years.  For several years, Waldo and Olive owned and operated the Rustic Inn and Restaurant.

Survived by his wife:  Olive; daughter:  Cynda Jewell (Ralph Culliton) of Fairport, NY; sons and daughters-in-law:  Henry (Sylvia) Wood of Knoxville, PA, Marty (Lisa) Wood of Middlebury Center, PA; 5 grandchildren:  Krista, Kurtis, Brennan, Tori and Martina; 8 great-grandchildren:  Levi, Jesse, Zoey, Tyler, Cruz, Harper, Kinzley and Marcus; several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Friends and relatives are invited to attend Waldo’s funeral service, which will be held 11:00 am Saturday September 4, 2021, at the Keeneyville United Methodist Church, Pastor Curtiss Owlett officiating.  In lieu of flowers, consider a memorial donation to the Keeneyville United Methodist Church or the Chatham Fire Department.  Waldo’s family has entrusted the Tussey-Mosher Funeral Home 139 Main Street Wellsboro, PA with his arrangements.  To share a memory or condolence with the family visit www.tusseymosher.com
