Stuart Carl Goodwin

October 18, 1921 — August 1, 2017

Stuart Carl Goodwin, 95, a lifelong resident of Wellsboro, passed away on Tuesday, August 1, 2017 at his residence.  Stuart was born on October 18, 1921, in Antrim, PA; the son of the late Carl Leroy and Mary Alice (Davis) Goodwin. He worked as a millwright and retired from Corning Glass plant in Wellsboro, after 42 years of service.

Stuart was a member of First Presbyterian Church of Wellsboro.

He was member of the Pennsylvania National Guard and TYOGA Country Club. Stuart was an avid and accomplished baseball player, played on last area traveling team and was invited to Detroit for their instructional league, however WWII interrupted his plans.

Stuart joined the Army during WWII, as a medic where he met his wife Edna, a registered nurse, whom he married on May 14, 1946.  They were married for 71 years and moved to their beloved farm they called the Ding Dang, where they enjoyed a wonderful life together.

Stuart was a hunter, fisherman, golfer and bowler; loved billiards and table tennis.

Surviving are his wife, Edna of Wellsboro; children, Barbara Howey (Dave, deceased), “Mike” Stuart Goodwin (Angel) and Mary Novakowski (Voitec, deceased); sister, Lois Lewis of Winston-Salem, NC; grandchildren, Christina Howey Coffee, Jennifer Howey Showers, Sarah Howey Taylor, Tricia Goodwin Kinane, Brad Goodwin, Robbie Hotchkiss, Rachel Hotchkiss Raines; great-grandchildren, Jordyn and Aidan Coffee, Charlotte and Noah Worthington, Wayne, Morgan, Ashley, Paige and Trey Taylor; Kaitlyn Kinane, Joey Raines, Emory Hotchkiss. Stuart was preceded in death by his sister, Veda Shaylor; brothers, James and Marion Goodwin.

Friends and family are invited to Stuart’s Life Celebration on Sunday, August 6, 2017 from 1-2 PM at Tussey-Mosher Funeral Home, 139 Main St., Wellsboro.  Funeral service to follow at 2:00 PM with Rev. Michael Birbeck officiating.  Burial will be in Tioga County Memorial Gardens.
