Richard A. Cruttenden

Richard A. "Dick" Cruttenden, 83, of Middlebury Center, passed away Wednesday November 10, 2021 surrounded by family at Broad Acres Nursing and Rehabilitation. He was born May 14, 1938 in Elmira, NY to Harold and Ethel Cruttenden. He is a graduate of Wellsboro Jr./Sr. High School, and in 1960 graduated from Lock Haven Teachers' College with a Bachelor's in physical education. On December 27, 1959 he married Judy Owlett and together they shared 61 years of marriage. Dick was a longtime teacher at Wellsboro Jr./Sr. High School and retired after 33 years of service. During his time there he served as Athletic Director and coached football. He was a PIAA basketball official, and is a member of the Tioga County Sports Hall of Fame. Dick was a member of the Keeneyville United Methodist Church, and an Eagle Scout. After retiring he enjoyed painting with his son Steve. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, travelling, and sporting events. He was especially proud of his children and grandchildren, supporting them in their sports, school, and county fair events. Dick is survived by his wife: Judy Owlett Cruttenden of Middlebury Center; son: Steven Cruttenden (Penny) of Keeneyville; daughter: Cheri Hess (Kevin) of Cortland, NY; sister: Barbara Burke of Reading; 4 grandchildren: Jessica Berguson (Jesse), Dylan Hess, Abby Hess, and Madison Cruttenden; and many loving nieces and nephews, two special caregivers and many dear friends. Friends and family are invited to pay tribute to Dick's life at the Tussey-Mosher Funeral Home 139 Main Street Wellsboro, PA from 7-9pm Tuesday November 16 and 10-11am Wednesday November 17 with a funeral to follow at 11am in the funeral home. Pastor Curtiss Owlett officiating. Burial will be in Middlebury Union Cemetery.
