Peter M. Dunham

March 22, 1957 — January 23, 2023

Peter McKenney Dunham, age 65, died unexpectedly on Jan. 23, 2023 in Jackson Hole, Wyoming, doing what he loved and was extremely passionate about.  He had just finished a spectacular ski run in great snow conditions on a beautiful day with friends. Born on March 22, 1957 in Wellsboro, Pennsylvania, he was the son of the late Roy James Dunham II, and Carol McKenney Dunham.

Peter was a graduate of Wellsboro High School, Susquehanna University and the University of Cincinnati Conservatory of Music. He also attended Franklin Pierce College where in 1977 he was invited onstage to perform the song “Ashes Are Burning” at a live concert with the rock band Renaissance. Upon graduation he gave serious consideration to professional opera and for some time worked in the field before pursuing his other two passions, golf and skiing. He had a very quick mind, a photographic memory, and a brilliant sense of humor. For a short period he held the course record at Tyoga Golf Course.

A resident of both Morris Plains, NJ and Jackson, Wyoming, Peter divided his time between Morris County Golf Course, as a well sought after Caddy, and Jackson Hole, Wyoming as a Ski Instructor. He was a member of the Professional Ski Instructor’s Association and an accomplished PSIA Certification Level 4 instructor.

Peter is survived by one son, Peter John of Bedminster, New Jersey; two brothers, R James (Dianne) of Wellsboro, PA; Bruce (Carol) of Jarrettsville, MD; one sister, Judy Shaal of Delaware, OH; two nephews, Bryn (Bev), Blake; and four nieces, Hannah (Conor) Kennedy, Jamie and Addison Shaal and Mercy Dunham.

In addition to his parents, Peter was preceded in death by two Uncles, John and Bob Dunham and a brother-in-law Bo Shaal.

The family will hold a memorial service in Wellsboro at a later date.
