Orpha B. Lundgren, 101, of Wellsboro, passed away Tuesday, November 10, 2015 at The Green Home. She was the wife of the late John E. Lundgren whom she married on October 15, 1939, in Antrim, PA.
Orpha was born October 1, 1914, in Welsh Settlement, the daughter of the late Ransom W. and Vera M. (Ingerick) Bowen.
Orpha was a graduate of Charleston High School. In 1937, she graduated from Robert Packer School of Nursing. Orpha was a registered nurse, employed as Nursing Supervisor at Soldiers & Sailors Memorial Hospital. After retiring from the hospital, she was hostess at The Antlers Inn from 1983-2006.
She served on the Board of the Welsh Settlement Congregational Church. Orpha was a member of Soldiers and Sailors Auxiliary and volunteered at the hospital in the outpatient services. She also served on the Board of Directors of The Green Home in Wellsboro. Later in life she attended Pine Creek Valley UMC.
Surviving are her sons, Terry J. (Cheryl) Lundgren of Painted Post, NY and Michael J. (Jean) Lundgren of Wellsboro; daughter-in-law, Alexandra Lundgren of Wellsboro; ten grandchildren, sixteen great-grandchildren and two great great-grandchildren. Orpha was preceded in death by her parents, husband and a son, Ronald Lundgren; two brothers, Clark and Howard Bowen.
Family and friends are invited to Orpha’s Life Celebration on Friday, November 13, 2015 from 6-9 PM at Tussey-Mosher Funeral Home, “A Life Celebration Home”, 139 Main St., Wellsboro and Saturday, November 14, 2015 from 10-11 AM at the funeral home, service following at 11:00 AM with the Rev. Canon Gregory P. Hinton officiating. Interment in Welsh Settlement Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers memorial donations in memory of Orpha may be made to the Susquehanna Health Foundation benefiting the Obstetrics Unit at Soldiers and Sailors Memorial Hospital. Donations can be sent to: SHF, Foundation Office, 22 Walnut St., Wellsboro, PA 16901
