Lucille A. Whitney, 81, of Wellsboro, passed away, Monday, July 21, 2025, at her home after an extended illness. She was born on December 18, 1943, in Coudersport, the daughter of the late Theodore and Doris (Williams) Sykora. She married Donald L. Whitney on December 19, 1964, and have celebrated over 60 years of marriage.
Lucille graduated from Galeton High School, Class of 1964 and received her teacher’s manager’s degree in cosmetology from the Pittsburgh Beauty Academy. She was self-employed as a hairdresser and cosmetologist. Lucille was a member of St. Peter’s Catholic Church, Wellsboro. She also enjoyed playing cards, and had a weekly card group, walking, exercising, knitting, and spending time with her family. Lucy was known for her kindness and thoughtfulness to others. Her faith was extremely important to her. Her children and grandchildren were her greatest joy.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by daughters: Tina (Eric) Kreisler, and Lynette Lehman, both of Wellsboro; brothers: Tim Sykora of Galeton; and David Sykora of Weeki Wachee, FL; sisters-in-laws: Wendy Sykora of Galeton; and Lora Whitney of Clarksville, TN; grandchildren: Mitchel (Sarah) Kreisler, Spencer (Emily) Kreisler, Chelsea Lehman, and Baylea (Brandon) Owlett; great grandchildren: Braydyn Lehman, Decker Owlett, Ivory Owlett, Avery Knight-Kreisler, and Adley Owlett, and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Lucille was preceded in death by a sister, Lana Bennett, a brother, Theodore Sykora, sister-in-laws: Joyce Sykora and Dolly Clark, and brother-in-laws: Bob Bennett and Jerry Whitney.
Family and friends are invited to pay their respects, Monday, July 28, 2025, from 6-8 pm at the Tussey-Mosher Funeral Home, 139 Main St., Wellsboro. A memorial mass will be held Tuesday, July 29, 2025,10AM at St. Peter’s Catholic Church, 38 Central Ave., Wellsboro. Burial will be in St. Peter’s Catholic Cemetery.
