Larry G. Knapp

January 3, 1942 — February 9, 2025

Larry G. Knapp, 83, of Ulysses, passed away peacefully on Sunday February 9, 2025 at Sweden Valley Manor in Coudersport.  He was born January 3, 1942, in Wellsboro, to Alfred H. and Roberta (Wood) Knapp, and grew up on the family farm on Maple Hill.  He attended Wellsboro schools, and served his country in the US Army in the honor guard at Arlington.  On March 16, 1962, he married Beverly M. Gisler with whom he shared 54 years of marriage.  After the Army Larry took classes at Corning Community College.  Larry loved the outdoors, he enjoyed snowmobile racing, hunting and fishing, and building ponds, because of the opportunities those activities provided to build relationships with his family, especially later with his grandchildren.  Larry spent years researching the genealogy of the Wood and Knapp families, and travelled extensively with his wife nationally and internationally.  He was a member of the Wellsboro Moose.  Larry worked hard all his life in many business fields with the loving support of a dedicated wife.  He owned and operated Larry’s Sports Center in Galeton, but before that he had been a plumber, and managed radio stations in Wellsboro and Williamsport, and founded WILQ before buying the Sport’s Center, afterwards he worked as a factory representative for Tilton Equipment and Jonsered  Chainsaws, and was an agent for Metropolitan Life.  Just enjoyed being engaged in work, and never wanted to retire.  In addition to his vocational life, Larry was active in community causes, compassionate to those in need, and involved in local and national politics and a consistent supporter of the NRA. Larry is survived by two daughters:  Laura (Wayne) Bennett of Ulysses and Cheryl (Wesley) Main of Galeton; three grandchildren:  Kelsey Bennett, Jordan (Lauren) Main, and Stephanie (Jason) Ives; a brother:  Bill Knapp; three sisters:  Shelby Beecher, Charlene (Albert) Bieber, and Melanie Oliver; and eight great-grandchildren.  He was preceded in death by his wife, parents, and a sister:  Nancy Coolidge. Friends and family are invited to pay tribute to Larry’s life from 10am-11am Saturday February 15, 2025, at the Tussey-Mosher Funeral Home 139 Main Street Wellsboro, PA, his funeral service will follow in the funeral home at 11am.  Burial will be in Maple Hill Cemetery.  To share a memory or condolence with his family visit www.tusseymosher.com.  In lieu of flowers donations in his name may be made to the Tioga County Honor Guard PO Box 504 Tioga, PA 16946.
