Joyce M (House) Broughton

Joyce M. Broughton, 82, of Morris, passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, January 10, 2016.  She was the widow of Frederick Broughton, who preceded her in death, April 14, 2006. Joyce was born June 30, 1933 in Morris, the daughter of the late Melvin D. and Naomi M. (Ellison) House.

Joyce was a graduate of Liberty High School; she was a member of Morris/Blackwell UMC.  Joyce held various positions within the church.  She was a Lay Leader, a Sunday School Superintendant and teacher.  She also was Lay Leader for the church conference.  Joyce enjoyed gardening and canning.  She also loved to do embroidery work.  Babysitting for the many children her life brought her great joy.  Joyce was always there for everybody and a “Special Aunt” to her surrounding community.

Surviving are her son, Gerald Broughton (Shirley) and her daughter, Susan L. English (Nick), all of Morris; four grandchildren, Nichole Kemp (Darren) , Wales; Dana Crumb (Tristen), Swiftwater; Jason Broughton (Stacey), Wellsboro and Cody Broughton, Morris; four great-grandchildren, Noelle, Eden and Silas Crumb, Swiftwater and Talon Kemp, Wales; brother, Jack House; sisters, Sandra Knopp (John); Elaine Brion (Lyle); Arlene Deppen (Don); Lynn Warso (Mick); sister-in-law, Ellie House;  several loving nieces and nephews; step-brother, Ward Baker (Ida) and step-sister, Marie Gottfried (Danny).  Joyce was preceded in death by her brother, Raymond House and by her great-grandson, Gabriel Crumb.

Friends and family are invited to Joyce’s Life Celebration on Thursday, January 14, 2016 from 6-8 PM at Tussey-Mosher Funeral Home, 139 Main St., Wellsboro and Friday, January 15, 2016 from 10-11 AM at Morris/Blackwell UMC, service to follow at 11:00 AM, with Pastor Donna Vaux officiating. Burial in Salem St. Paul Cemetery.
