Johanna A. “Jo” Whitmer, 95, lifetime resident of Wellsboro, passed away Wednesday, March 2, 2016 at Broad Acres.  She was born May 1, 1920 in Ogdensburg, PA,   the daughter of the late Joseph and Antoinette (Barneski) Tacka.  Johanna graduated from Morris Run High School.

She was owner and operator of the former Whitmer’s Fashions of Wellsboro.  Johanna was a member of St. Peter’s Catholic Church.  She enjoyed playing Bingo and loved spending time with her family.

Surviving are her daughter and son-in-law, Barbara Jo and Harold Frey, Catawissa; step-daughter and son-in-law, Carol and Bill Williams of Bradenton, FL; step-daughter, Janet Hoffman, Lima OH; two granddaughters, Holly B. Frey, Atlanta, GA and Julie C. Frey (Russell), Corning, NY; 5 step-grandchildren and 8 step-great-grandchildren.  Johanna was preceded in death by her parents and both her first and second husbands, Warren C. Wilcox and Paul A. Whitmer.

Friends and family are invited to Johanna’s Life Celebration on Monday, March 7, 2016 from 2-4 PM at Tussey-Mosher Funeral Home, Ltd., 139 Main St. Wellsboro.  Memorial Mass will be Tuesday, March 8, 2016, 10:00 AM at St. Peter’s Catholic Church with Rev. David Bechtel officiating.  Interment in Wellsboro Cemetery.
