Joan M. (Mathern) Kilmer

Joan M. Kilmer, 79, formerly of Wellsboro, passed away October 21, 2017 at UPMC Susquehanna Skilled Nursing & Rehab. in Muncy, PA. She was born in Mansfield, PA, on May 19, 1938, the daughter of the late Howard and Genevieve (Knapp) Mathern.
Joan was a graduate of Mansfield High School with the class of 1956; she studied at Williamsport Area Community College. During the 70’s she resided in Jamestown, NY and was a caretaker for the Hillcrest Baptist Church. In addition, she worked at Crawford Furniture and Fenton Park Nursing Home. She retired as a nurses aide at the Green Home in Wellsboro. Joan was a member of the First Baptist Church of Wellsboro.
Joan is survived by her sons, Mark Kilmer (wife, Jodi), Elysburg, PA and Robert Pierce of Wellsboro, PA; daughter, Susan Pierce Salgado (husband, Carlos) of Jamestown, NY; grandchildren, Misty Pierce-Wilson ( husband, Michael), Jenny Pierce, Rebecca Mothershed, Amy Millar, Matthew Hillman, Michael Hillman, Ryan Leisenring and Adam Leisenring; great-grandchildren, Alexis M. Pierce, Reese M. Wilson and thirteen more great-grandchildren; one great great-grandchild; her grand dog, Maggie, whom she loved dearly and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Joan was preceded in death by her brother, Howard Mathern, Jr. (Sonny).
Joan’s Life Celebration will be held at the First Baptist Church of Wellsboro, 25 Central Ave., Friday, October 27, 2017 from 1-2 PM with memorial service to follow at 2:00 PM with Pastor Jeff McCleary officiating. Interment will be in the Oakwood Cemetery, Mansfield, PA.
At Joan’s request, in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Green Free Library, 134 Main St. Wellsboro, PA 16901. Joan was a longtime member of the library.
