Jacqueline “Jackie” Roberts Knaus, 73, of Wellsboro, died on Monday, February 29, 2016 at her home in the loving care of her family. She was born November 17, 1942 in Blossburg, a daughter of Ellsworth O. and Lucy (Reep) Roberts.
Jackie graduated from Wellsboro High School, Class of 1960 and then graduated from Jean Summers Business School in Elmira, NY. She married Ronald “Tuffy” Knaus and they had two children. Sadly, Ron died when the children were young and Jackie was faced with the challenges of a single parent. Fortunately, she had the loving support of her family close by. Jackie retired from the Pennsylvania Department of Public Assistance after 25 years of service as a caseworker.
She had a passion for music and was a founding member of the Wellsboro Women’s Chorus which began in 1979 and is very active today. In recent years she joined another local music group, the Wednesday Morning Musicales. She enjoyed helping others and volunteered for many years as a worker and board member of the local food pantry. She was a member of the Red Hat Society, the Canyon Dreamers Investment Club and a retiree’s luncheon club. Jackie was an avid reader and she enjoyed gardening and going on picnics at Colton Point. She loved to travel, with Williamsburg, VA and Cape Cod being favorite destinations. She was an active member of the United Methodist Church of Wellsboro and served her God with devotion.
Jackie is survived by her son, Brad Knaus of Lancaster, PA; her daughter, Laurie DiFrancesco (Steve) of Penn Yan, NY; her mother, Lucy Roberts of Wellsboro; sisters, Barbara Auman (Thomas) of Wellsboro and Connie Kudrich (Michael) of Hawley, PA; two brothers-in-law, John Suhr of Wellsboro and Clarence Knaus (Joan) of Montoursville, PA; several special nieces, nephews, cousins and grandchildren.
