George Rodgers

George W. Rodgers, Jr., 86, of Wellsboro, passed away peacefully, with his wife, Elaine by his side, on Saturday January 24, 2026, at The Green Home. He was born on October 1, 1939, in Philadelphia, PA where he grew up and graduated high school, then served in the US Navy. He began his career at Gulf Oil and later was employed by various companies as a corporate property tax manager. His connection to Philadelphia remained strong as a lifelong fan who attended many games of the Philadelphia Eagles, Phillies, Flyers, and 76ers.

George met his wife, Elaine Mathern, one night at a hospital in Philadelphia where she was employed as a nurse, while he was visiting a friend's father, who encouraged the two young men to go out and visit the cute nurses at the nurses' station. It wasn't long before they married on September 2nd, 1961. He and Elaine shared 64 years of marriage.

When George and Elaine retired and built their dream log home in Little Marsh, PA. They cherished the years they spent in their beautiful home. You would often find George in his workshop. As a talented woodworker he crafted many items and helped Elaine prepare for her craft shows. He served as a volunteer member of Chatham Twp. VFD, earning an award for the work he did managing the organization's funds to purchase additional equipment.

One of his favorite places to go, was the Black Wolf Rod and Gun Club, where he was a member, served two terms as treasure and enjoyed hunting with his sons, brother-in-law, and camp friends.

George is survived by his wife, Elaine Rodgers of Wellsboro; daughter, Cindy Rodgers Sodano (Ron) of Haymarket, VA, two sons, Shawn Rodgers (Lori) of Latrobe, PA, and Todd Rodgers (Kristen) of Newfane, NY, and three grandchildren, Natalie Rodgers of Latrobe, Jesse Rodgers and Grace Rodgers of Newfane. He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister.
