Gene Edward Luke, 93, of Wellsboro, passed away peacefully Sunday September 13, 2026, at home surrounded by family. He was born November 27, 1932, in Berthold, ND, to Charles and Ione (Jones) Luke. On June 7, 1952, he married his high school sweetheart Nancy A. Luzena, and they shared 72 years of marriage before her passing in 2024. He earned his master's degree at Miami University of Ohio and worked as an engineer at Corning Glass.
Gene was an active and dedicated member of First Presbyterian Church of Wellsboro, and a member of the masonic lodge in OH. He was an avid woodworker and enjoyed woodworking projects and fixing things. His family and friends enjoyed his many homemade gifts. Gene was athletic and attended all the sporting events of his children and continued going even after they were out of school. He golfed for many years and was a member of the Tyoga Country Club. Gene and Nancy did some square dancing, and he enjoyed playing games with his family. He loved spending time in Williamsburg, VA, and visited there often.
Gene is survived by two sons: Malen (Hedy) Luke of Topeka, KS, and Brian (Valerie) Luke of Arlington, MA; a daughter: Jill (Patrick) Maier of Wellsboro; six grandchildren: Brock (Stephanie) Luke, Matthew Luke, Kylie (Toby) Bluemel, Quinn (Riley) Gudakunst, Ian Luke, and Shea Maier; three great-grandchildren: Kellen Luke, Porter Luke, and Luna Gudakunst; and a sister: Kay Girbert. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, and a sister: Marilyn Neff.
Friends and family are invited to pay tribute to Gene's life from 4:30-5:00pm Saturday September 19, 2026, at the First Presbyterian Church of Wellsboro, with a service to follow at 5:00pm in church. Donations in his memory may be made to the First Presbyterian Church of Wellsboro 130 Main Street Wellsboro, PA 16901, or the Wellsboro Glass Historical Association https://ebm.mzk.mybluehost.me/get-involved/.
