Francis L. English

Francis L. English, age 87, of Mansfield, passed away peacefully at his residence on Tuesday, November 6, 2018. He was the husband of the late Aileen (Bliss) English and they shared 57 years of marriage together prior to Aileen’s passing in 2011. He was born August 7, 1931, in Blossburg, the son of the late Arthur Russell and Bertha Doris (Knapp) English.

Francis was a member of the Whitneyville United Methodist Church and the Loyal Order of the Moose. He was employed by Corning Glass Works for over 30 years prior to his retirement. He was a decorated veteran who served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He enjoyed gardening and picking fruits and vegetables for his fruit stand. He also had a passion for music, especially playing the guitar. He frequently would visit George’s Restaurant for a good meal and conversation. Most importantly he loved spending time with his family, specifically his grandkids. He will be remembered by family and friends for being an honest and hardworking man.

Left to cherish his memory are his daughters, Brenda Bartelme of Florida, Deborah (David) Harsch of Wellsboro and Barbara (John) Wilson of Wellsboro; many grandchildren and many great grandchildren; brother, Gordon (Sharon) English of Nevada; sisters, Bev English of Ohio and Dorothy Michaels of California; several nieces and nephews; and many dear friends.

In addition to his parents and wife, Aileen, Francis was preceded in death by two grandsons, Jeremy Bronson and Patrick Greenfield. He was also predeceased by four siblings.

Family and friends are invited to pay their respects on Monday, November 12, 2018, from 5-7 p.m. at Tussey-Mosher Funeral Home, Ltd., 139 Main Street, Wellsboro. Francis’ funeral service will immediately follow at 7:00 p.m., with Pastor Sandi Hemker officiating. Burial will be held at Tioga County Memorial Gardens with full military honors.
