Doreen Oles Baxter, 94, was born October 27, 1931 in Roscoe, NY to Ward L. and Dorothy Zahorik Oles, and died August 19, 2026 in Wellsboro, PA.
Doreen married Gerald "Jerry" Baxter, also of Roscoe, in 1950. They traveled the U.S. and Canada, and lived in Pennsylvania, New York, Ohio, Florida, California, and Washington.
Doreen was predeceased by Jerry, son Ward L., granddaughter Leigh Baxter, brothers Arthur (Margie) and Ward F. "Buddy" Oles, and Jerry's sister Lois (Bob) Fontana and brother Eugene (Mary) Baxter.
She is survived by daughter Tris B. (Mark) Ozark, daughter-in-law Joan Collins Baxter, grandson Matthew (Molly) Baxter, two great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
Treasured by family and friends, Doreen was also a respected leader in organizations from Scout troops to a hospital auxiliary and a garden club. She attended Albany Business College and enjoyed working as a medical secretary. She was perhaps most dedicated to her work as a deacon in the Presbyterian Church, and most thrilled with a helicopter tour in Hawaii, where she celebrated both her 80th birthday and reaching her goal of visiting all 50 states in the U.S.
In a letter addressed "To family and friends," she asked that "instead of a funeral" they remember her as she "always greeted them and everyone else, with a smile, warm greeting, and big hug."
Private arrangements were entrusted to Tussey-Mosher Funeral Home in Wellsboro.
