Deuane C. Cummings

Deuane C. Cummings, 102, a longtime resident of Wellsboro, passed away on Thursday, January 14, 2016 at The Green Home.  He was the husband of Margaret (Moran) Cummings, who preceded him in death, February 27, 2009. Deuane was born in Tioga, December 31, 1913, the son of the late Cassius and Edith (Jones) Cummings.  He was one of eight children and grew up on a farm on Mitchell Creek Road, in Tioga.

Deuane worked for America LaFrance in Elmira NY, painting fire trucks.  He was a steel guitar player, who also enjoyed woodworking.  Deuane was a member of Wellsboro First Baptist Church.

Surviving are his son, Alan Cummings (Judy), Irmo, SC and his daughter, Janet Sloppy (Merril), Miamisburg, Ohio; nine grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren and seven great-great-grandchildren; brother, Cecil (Red) Cummings, DeLand, Florida.  In addition to his parents and wife, Deuane was preceded in death by his daughter, Rhenda Kennedy; sister, Theadora Barnes; five brothers, Reed, Gordon, Jesse, Maynard, and Luther Cummings.

Graveside service will be held on Monday, January 18, 2016, 12:00 PM at Wellsboro Cemetery with Rev. Dr. Jeffrey McCleary officiating.  Local arrangements by Tussey-Mosher Funeral Home, Ltd., 139 Main St., Wellsboro, PA 16901.

Memorials may be made in Deuane’s name to Wellsboro First Baptist Church, 25 Central Ave., Wellsboro, PA 16901.
