David F. Howey 69 of Wellsboro passed away in his home, comforted by many, many loving family members and friends, Friday December 23, 2016 after a long battle with cancer. He was the son of Frederick and Annie Jo (Chapman) Howey, born February 12, 1947. David graduated from Wellsboro High School and served in the US Navy during the Viet Nam War. He owned and operated two local businesses, Howey’s Carpet Installation, and, later The Steak House on Main Street in Wellsboro. Dave fulfilled a boyhood dream of being a bus driver, working as a coach driver for Benedict’s Bus Service in his retirement from The Steak House. He was very active in his community over the years and served in many capacities, but his service as Past President on the Wellsboro Chamber of Commerce, Chairman of the Charleston Twp. Municipal Board, and Chairman of the Laurel Health Golf Tournament was especially important. David was an accomplished competitor in several disciplines, he was an excellent pool player and a member of two 8-Ball leagues, belonged to the Pro Bowling Tour and had several 300 games to his credit, and was an avid golfer with three hole-in-ones. He enjoyed his woodworking shop and loved hunting and hiking.
David is survived by his wife of 48 years, Barbara Goodwin Howey, a sister: Kay Hickman (Jerry), a brother: Dale Howey (Joyce). He was the proud father of three daughters: Christina Coffee (Geoff) of Wellsboro, Jennifer Showers (Jack) of Brenham, TX, and Sarah Taylor (Wayne) of Bolivar, NY. Dave was especially proud of his 10 grandchildren: Wayne, Morgan, Ashley, Paige and Trey Taylor; Jordyn and Aidan Coffee; Dustin, Charlotte, and Noah Worthington
The family has entrusted the Tussey-Mosher Funeral Home, 139 Main Street Wellsboro, PA to handle David’s services.
