Cynthia Marie Benedict

Dec 16, 1947 — Oct 20, 2026

Cynthia Marie Rogers Benedict, also known as Snookie, Snooks, Mom, and Mimi, and former co-owner of Benedict’s Bus Service, 78, of Mansfield, passed away peacefully in her sleep on October 20, 2026.

Cynthia was born on December 16, 1947, to Doris Butler Rogers and Robert H Rogers. She grew up mostly with her grandmother, Mabel Butler in Morris, PA.

She was a meticulous hard worker. She worked at Wellsboro Corning Glass, Wellsboro Chamber of Commerce as a secretary to Frank Dunham, and later at Commonwealth Bank & Trust. She was also a member of the Whitneyville United Methodist Church.

She was united in marriage to her best friend, Robert Benedict, on March 16, 1968. They moved to Kent, Ohio while Bob was finishing his last two years of college. She worked at Kent State as secretary to the Provost. Her secretarial skills were often praised. She was escorted out of the Administration Building to her waiting husband during the Kent State unrest and massacre. This year, they celebrated 58 years of marriage.

They returned to Wellsboro in 1970 and started a family. They welcomed their first daughter, Tammy, on July 24, 1970. Son, Tyler was born on May 5, 1972. Maria was born on December 15, 1977.

She and Bob assumed ownership of Benedict’s Ford in 1977, which evolved into Benedict’s Bus in 1991-1992. She had many roles - bookkeeper, dispatcher, employee confidante, mentor, friend, and conflict-resolver. She loved making time for customers, employees, and most especially, her family. To know her, was to love her.

She and Bob traveled extensively with the Ford business and later, the motorcoach business. Her favorite destination was Italy. In later years, she and Bob spent many winter months in Florida in their motorhome because camping was one of their favorite things to do and they both loved the warmer weather. But it was always family first. She would tell Bob they could only be gone for 2-3 months because she would miss her family too much.

She was adored by her children and grandchildren. She was always ready to pass out an afternoon snack, ooh and aah over schoolwork, and grab a hug and kiss after school. She was our family “Angel on Earth” the one everyone went to for advice and prayer. She was the one who was always ready to listen, give an encouraging word, or a warm hug. She was there for every football game, concert and any other event the kids or grandkids were involved in.

In 2015, she realized she could not handle the needs of the business and was later diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease. In the beginning stages of this, she repeatedly said she just wanted to go home to Heaven. She entered Sheila’s Personal Care Home in Hospice on June 18, 2021. Sheila nurtured her out of Hospice not once, but 4 times. Snookie was truly cared for and loved like family while with them.

Preceded in death by her parents, several aunts, uncles, and cousins. Survived by her husband, Bob Benedict; daughters Tammy Mengee and Maria (Dan) Frank; and son, Tyler (Tammy) Benedict. Grandchildren Taylor (Tommy) Boyanoski, living in Troy; Kenzie (Landen) Kennedy, living in Wellsboro; Alexis (Kaleb) Smith living in Harrisburg; Taylor (Bryce) Collingwood living in Philadelphia; Kayla (Holden) Kennedy living in Wellsboro; Dustin Benedict living in Virginia Beach; Lindsey Benedict, living in Harrisburg; Hailee Jo Benedict, living in Wellsboro; and her fur-baby and companion, Coco. Also survived by her sister Bobbi Jean Santacroce of Knoxville, TN and brother Terry (Kathy) Rogers of Wellsboro.
