Charlotte M.  Slocum, 94, of Wellsboro, passed away on Tuesday, January 26, 2016 at Soldiers and Sailors Memorial Hospital.  She was born December 21, 1921, in Wellsboro PA, the daughter of the late Newell and Louise (Smith) Houghtaling.

Charlotte was a member of the Keeneyville UMC since 1952; in recent years she attended worship services at Broad Acres where she was a resident.

During her lifetime Charlotte was employed as a school bus driver for Benedict’s Bus Service for 38 years; in addition she was a custodian in Wellsboro at the Don Gill School.  Charlotte was past district deputy for the Rebekah Lodge, member of the Middlebury Grange for 60 years, Pomona Grange, State and National Grange. She also was a longtime volunteer at Soldiers and Sailors Memorial Hospital.

Surviving are her daughter and son-in-law, Pam and Edward Berguson of Blossburg; five grandchildren, Scott (Judith) Berguson, Morris; Eric (Ann) Slocum, Caton, NY; Penny (Todd) Stone, Campbell, NY; Bonnie (Mike) Arnold, Elkland and Mark Slocum, Elkland; several great grandchildren.  In addition to her parents, Charlotte was preceded in death by her son, Wayne Slocum and brothers, William and Leroy Houghtaling.

Friends and family are invited to Charlotte’s Life Celebration on Thursday, January 28, 2016 from 2-4 PM, at Tussey-Mosher Funeral Home, Ltd., 139 Main St. Wellsboro, PA.  Service to follow at 4:00 PM with Rev.  David Blowers officiating.  Interment in Middlebury Union Cemetery.
