Catherine M. (Mitchell) Shelmire

Catherine M. Shelmire, 91, passed away at her home, surrounded by her loving family on August 10, 2016.  She was the widow of Edgar V. Shelmire, who died on December 25, 1995.  Catherine was born April 14, 1925 in Wenonah, NJ, the daughter of the late Francis and Catherine (Mitchell) Herzberg.

Catherine was a member of Draper Baptist Church.  She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great great-grandmother and friend. She never had a driver’s license.  Catherine enjoyed farming; she loved her flower gardens and watching the birds.  In addition, she made many beautiful crocheted items, to share with family and friends.

Catherine is survived by her sons, Edgar R. Shelmire (Sharon) , James H. Shelmire (Gloria), John S. Shelmire (Jody) and Jeff G. Shelmire, all of Draper, PA; daughters, Bessie Kriner, Cathy Doane (James), of Draper, PA and Susan Pierce (Terry) of Blue Ridge, GA; nineteen grandchildren; many great-grand children and great great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and husband, Catherine was preceded in death by her brother, Frank Herzberg; sisters, Adelaide Manahon, Emma Ginipro and Marie Herzberg.

Friends and family are invited to Catherine’s Life Celebration on Monday, August 15, 2016 from 11 AM-

12 PM, at Tussey-Mosher Funeral Home, Ltd. 139 Main St., Wellsboro. Funeral service to follow at 12 noon, with Pastor Ron Hagy officiating.  Interment in Tioga County Memorial Gardens Cemetery.
