Carl F. Hughes

Carl Hughes, a loving and deeply loved family man passed over Sunday, September 14, 2025. He was born June 29, 1940, at home in Tioga to Howard and Lola (Henninger) Hughes. Carl graduated from Williamson High School and 10 days after graduation, he married Ellen Bell with whom he shared sixty-seven years of marriage. Carl was a retired building contractor. He was a master of his craft and mentored many builders along the way. Carl took great pride in everything that he did. His work was impeccable. Carl also carried on the traditions of his own father and raised plentiful volumes of produce for the community. Carl still maintained a beautiful garden for his friends and family. He made many memories of outdoor adventures with his brothers, sons-in-law, grandchildren and nephews, hunting and fishing over the years. Carl's greatest source of pride and joy has always been his family. Carl made it a lifelong priority to always take care of his family: His parents, siblings, wife, daughters and grandchildren were always under his watch. Carl also took great care of his neighbors and was always there to lend a helping hand, never expecting anything in return. Carl will be forever missed by his family. He is survived by his wife: Ellen B. Hughes of Tioga; three daughters and sons-in-law: Helen Kaye and Marty Stoughton of Cranberry Twp., LeAnne and Jon Becker of Granby, CO, and Carla and Bill Westlake of Millerton; six grandchildren: Blair Becker and Erik Becker of CO, Brooke Patt (Garlen) of Mansfield, Janelle Collum (Jordan) of Millerton, Troy Westlake (Vanessa) of Millerton, Raleigh Stoughton (Emily) of Zelienople, PA; and seven great-grandchildren: Parker Collum, Hunter Patt, Weston Patt, Delaney Collum, Trace Westlake, Rhett Westlake, Cora Becker, and one more on the way in January; a brother: Bruce Hughes (Peggy); a brother-in-law: Carl and Bonnie Bell; sisters-in-law: Phyllis and Ernest White, Marty Bell, and Gail Hughes; many loved nieces and nephews and friends throughout the community. Carl was preceded in death by his parents, a sister: Carol Hughes, and a brother: Dale Hughes. Friends and family are invited to pay tribute to Carl's life from 1-3pm Sunday September 28, 2025 at the Tussey-Mosher Funeral Home 139 Main Street Wellsboro, PA 16901, with a memorial service to follow at 3pm in the funeral home.
