Brian R. Kamin

Brian R. Kamin, 65, Westfield, died September 12, 2022, at his home on top of the mountain above Asaph. He was born on June 7, 1957, in Racine, Wisconsin, to George and Shirley (Daleski) Kamin. Brian, his mother, and siblings moved to Wellsboro in 1972; he attended Wellsboro Area High School, then spent a number of years living and working out west before returning to Tioga County. To say Brian was a jack-of-all-trades is a huge understatement-he was so smart about so many things. He was a self- employed carpenter who could do just about anything when it came to construction projects, although he was the first to admit he was not a plumber. He was such a hard worker ("It doesn't take me all day to do a day's work," he'd say, and he was right), and he was also funny, quirky, strong, helpful, and a bit of a Luddite. He loved deer hunting, turkey hunting, ice fishing, fly fishing, mountain biking, maple syrup-making, and the woods, waters, and fields of Tioga County. He was a really good cook. He'd stop to help a turtle or a rattlesnake off the road. He'd cry over the loss of a beloved pet; he'd laugh over "Wait Wait...Don't Tell Me!", Chicken Run, or Pee-wee's Playhouse. He preferred living simply and hanging out at home. Brian was the proverbial study in contrasts-he could be as tough as the nails and wood he used to make his living, and as soft as the fur of the stray cats he welcomed into his life. Brian is survived by Gayle Morrow, his partner/significant other for over 20 years, her children, Isaac Spencer, Sidney Center, New York, and Addam (Tara) Spencer, Blossburg, by his mother, Shirley Jordan, Wellsboro, sisters Christine (Steve) Tasa, Wellsboro, and Michelle (Randy) Fox, Massachusetts, brother Steve Kamin, Wellsboro, his two nieces and two nephews, and Gayle's four grandchildren. He is also survived by an eclectic assortment of great and long-time friends, including Bob (Jeanie) Enders, Middlebury Center; Dean (Jan) Forrest, Weldona, Colorado; Jim (Beth) Weaver, Wellsboro; Kathy Riley, Gaines. He is greatly missed by the four cats with whom he shared his home, and by his best dog friend, Hildy, who adored him and does not understand why he's not at his usual spot on the couch for morning coffee. He was preceded in death by his father, George, by his uncle, Jerry Kamin, by his step-father, Bob Jordan, and by his grandparents. There are no plans for a service at this time, so do keep your best memories of Brian close to your heart, and share them when you can.
