Wilma M. Townsend

Wilma M. Townsend, 93, of Wellsboro, passed away on Friday, May 12, 2017, at Broad Acres Nursing Home.  She was born August 9, 1923 in Wellsboro, the daughter of the late William E.  and Florence M. (Stratton) Townsend. 

Wilma was a graduate of Wellsboro High School with the Class of 1941.  During her lifetime, she worked for Corning Glass Works, Wellsboro division as an accountant.  She retired in 1981 with 40 years of service.

She was a member of First Baptist Church for 82 years.  Wilma belonged to the Wednesday Morning Musicals, Wellsboro; Morris 55+ Club, Morris; AARP and a member of B.P.W. of Wellsboro; the Wellsboro Art Club and was a volunteer at Soldiers and Sailors Memorial Hospital, Wellsboro. 

Wilma is survived by her niece, Wendy L. Chely (James) Elmira, NY and several cousins, she was preceded in death by her sisters, Geraldine Sherman and Rachel F. Townsend.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, May 16, 2017 from 10:30-11:00 AM, at Tussey-Mosher Funeral Home, 139 Main St., Wellsboro.  Funeral service to follow at 11:00 AM with Rev. Dr. Jeffrey Mc Cleary officiating.  Interment in West Branch Cemetery.
