Blair Van Zandt

Blair Van Zandt, 95, of Mansfield, passed away on Saturday, June 3, 2017 at Carleton Health and Rehabilitation Center in Wellsboro. He was the husband of the late Patricia (Spencer) Van Zandt, they enjoyed 49 years of marriage together.

Blair was born on March 3, 1922, in Morris, PA, he was the son of the late J.B. and Eva (Brown) Van Zandt.

Blair proudly served in the United States Marine Corp. during World War II from 1940 to 1946. Due to his outstanding service during wartime, he was awarded the Bronze Star. He was a member of the St. Paul’s Episcopal Church and the Wellsboro Men’s Chorus. Blair was also a 50 Year Member of the Ossea Masonic Lodge No. 317. He was a life member of the American Legion and a member of the V.F.W. Blair was employed as a truck driver for over 30 years at Tayton’s Trucking. He enjoyed cutting firewood and had a true passion for woodworking. He was a turkey hunting enthusiast and an avid birdwatcher. Blair also enjoyed dancing from a young age.

In addition to his beloved wife, Patricia, Blair was preceded in death by; four sisters, Anita Yohe, Ruth Kreger, Vivian Hagy and Doris Copp; a niece, Betty Hodder.

Left to cherish his memory are, a Special Friend, Carol Smith of Mansfield; a nephew he thought of as a son, Michael D. (Carol) Gerow of Covington; nieces, Beverly (Edward) Brucklacher of Liberty and Beverly (Robert) Harnish of Wellsboro; sister-in-law, Joan Spencer Hart of Wellsboro; several additional nieces and nephews; several great nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, Post Office Box 701, Wellsboro, PA 16901.

A funeral service will be held on Saturday, June 10, at 11:00 A.M. at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, Pearl St. Wellsboro, PA 16901. Family and friends are also invited to calling hours on Friday evening, June 9, from 5:00 P.M. until 7:00 P.M. at Tussey-Mosher Funeral Home, Ltd., 139 Main Street, Wellsboro, PA 16901.
