Wallace E. “Wally” Keck, 87, of Wellsboro, passed away on Tuesday, April 10, 2018 at his home surrounded by his loving family. He was the husband of Dorothy “Dot” Keck and they shared 48 years of marriage together prior to her passing in 2003. He was born on October 23, 1930 in Middlebury Township, the son of the late Walter and Vauleda (Lorenz) Keck.
Wally and his wife were the owners and operators of the former Wally’s Hotel, located on Pearl Street in Wellsboro for 27 years. He served in the U.S. Airforce during the Korean Conflict as a flight engineer, they were also referred to as the “Busy Bitches.” He continued his career as a flight engineer after the military, with American Airlines. While attending flight school in Tulsa, OK, he met the love of his life, Dorothy. He also had an opportunity to fly with the Flying Tigers out of California. His passion for flying continued throughout his life.
Wally was very involved in his community, as he was a member of the Wellsboro Ossea Lodge #317, the Coudersport Consistory, the Wellsboro V.F.W and a life member of the Wellsboro Moose Lodge #1147. He was also a member of the Lucky Nine Hunting Club out of Little Marsh, The Arnot Sportsmen’s Club and the Wellsboro Social Club. Wally’s hobbies and interests included fishing, hunting, gardening and watching his grandchildren play sports.
Left to cherish his memory are his sons, Darrel (Susan) Keck of Ocean City, MD, Douglas (Krista) Keck of Wellsboro and Darren (Krista) Keck of Wellsboro; grandchildren, Kyra, Kanan, Brandon, Jess, Leanne, Joanna, Andrew and Austin; seven great-grandchildren sister, Beverly Boyce of Brookville, FL;
In addition to his wife, Dot, Wally was preceded in death by his son, Dennis Keck; brothers, Warren, Tom and Fred; sister, Geraldine Gustin.
Memorial contributions can be made in Wally’s name to the Wellsboro All Sports Booster Club, 225 Nichols Street, Wellsboro, PA 16901.
A receiving of family and friends will be held on Saturday, April 14, 2018 from 1:30 PM until 3:45 PM at Tussey-Mosher Funeral Home, Ltd., 139 Main Street, Wellsboro, PA 16901. Wally’s funeral service will be held at 4:00 PM at the funeral home with Pastor Darwin “Tink” Cranmer officiating. A Masonic service will be held prior to his funeral service and Military Honors will conclude services. Interment will take place in Tioga County Memorial Gardens.
